RS-232 Baud Rate Zero Trap
If a serial driver works in 'identify' but stops sending commands, check the baud rate. Some Composer builds default to 0 baud after a proxy rebuild. Manually set in Connections → Serial.

IP Driver Heartbeat = Your Friend
Enable heartbeat polling on every IP driver that supports it. A 30-second heartbeat catches dropped TCP connections before the homeowner notices. Set reconnect delay to 5s, not 0.

Proxy vs. Protocol Driver
A proxy driver creates the device UI. A protocol driver talks to hardware. You need both — one of each. Confusing them causes duplicate bindings and ghost devices in the navigator.
